Greek authorities arrested an Egyptian man in Glyfada on Friday after catching him with a live grenade, and the investigation has already traced the attack order back to a convicted murderer serving a life sentence at Diavata Prison. The man behind bars is also Egyptian, jailed since 2017 after a final murder conviction, with prior charges including robbery. He reportedly gave the order through an intermediary, a Greek national who remains at large. Police tracked down that intermediary's home and found a revolver and 4,000 euros inside. Among the suspected targets was former Supreme Court Prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos. According to Skai, police had already warned Dogiakos that an attack on his home was imminent and asked him and his family to leave. Specialized OPKE units were deployed heavily in his neighborhood in the days before the arrest. The Egyptian suspect was arrested Friday afternoon by Greece's Organized Crime Division after being placed under surveillance. Investigators say he had received the grenade from the intermediary but had not yet been given a specific target when he was taken into custody. Authorities have now seized the suspect's mobile phone, which they expect will be key to identifying both the intended target and any additional accomplices still operating outside prison. Investigators have already drawn up a list of 15 potential targets the suspect may have been assigned to hit.
