Greece's Ministry of Culture is opening 126 archaeological sites, monuments, and museums across the country for free on Friday, August 28, 2026, as part of the annual August Full Moon celebrations. This is the 27th consecutive year the event has been held, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage. Of the 126 sites, 65 will stay open for extended nighttime hours, generally from 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. or midnight, allowing visitors to walk through Greece's most significant landmarks under the full moon. The other 61 sites and museums will host specially organized cultural events, including concerts, theater performances, dance shows, themed exhibitions, and guided tours. This year's program runs beyond the main Friday night, with parallel events also scheduled on August 26, 27, 29, and 30. Local government authorities and cultural organizations are joining the Ministry in organizing the events across different regions.
