More than 100 academics, researchers, journalists, and diaspora representatives from Europe, the United States, and Australia will gather in Sydney this September for the 12th International Summer University on Greek Language, Culture, and Media. The event runs from September 6 to 11 at the University of New South Wales, organized by the University of Ioannina in cooperation with the UNSW Greek Studies program. Sessions are open to the public at no cost and will be streamed live online. The conference is held under the patronage of Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas and is supported by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy. Scientific director Professor Nikoletta Tsiatsanoudis-Mallidi leads the academic program, with Vassilis Adrachtas heading the organizational side in Australia. This year's program places particular focus on how artificial intelligence and new technologies can support the teaching and spread of the Greek language in diaspora communities worldwide. The connection between academic research and journalism is also a central theme. Alongside the academic sessions, attendees can take in a sketch exhibition featuring the work of Ilias Makris, Andreas Petroulakis, and Stathis Stavropoulos, plus book presentations, documentary screenings, visual arts exhibitions, and music events dedicated to Greek culture. It marks the 12th edition of the conference and the first time it is being held in Australia, a country home to one of the largest Greek diaspora communities in the world. #GreekLanguage #GreekDiaspora #Sydney
