A Greek architecture firm just won an international design award for a futuristic hotel complex it designed in the mountains of Serbia. Athens-based Potiropoulos+Partners received the A' Design Award 2026 Bronze in the category of Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design for the Arboris Hotel project in Zlatibor, Serbia.
The complex consists of three circular ring-shaped buildings set across a large forested plateau. The design was inspired by Stopića Cave, a series of natural underground limestone basins with circular formations. Each ring structure opens panoramically in all directions and wraps around a central open-air core, creating what the architects describe as a protected natural cavity.
The facade uses wooden shading elements that reference the rhythm of the surrounding forest while improving the building's energy performance. Glass surfaces reflect the environment so the structures appear to blend into the topography. Green rooftop terraces and a central lake anchor the landscape experience for guests.
The A' Design Awards recognize excellence in design globally, with particular emphasis on innovation, functionality, and the creative use of new technologies. Potiropoulos+Partners said the recognition confirms the firm's ability to combine experience, creativity, and innovation, placing Greek architecture firmly on the international map.
The firm noted that winning in the AI-assisted design category carries particular weight, as it reflects architecture's broader transformation through technology. Potiropoulos+Partners has a long international track record, and this award adds to its presence in high-level global design competitions.
