Forbes has named three Greek-born billionaires in its updated list of the wealthiest immigrants living in the United States, published to mark the country's 250th anniversary. The full list now counts a record 144 immigrant billionaires with a combined net worth of $2.2 trillion, up from 125 people and $1.3 trillion last year. John Catsimatidis ranks No. 53 on the list with an estimated fortune of $4.8 billion. He moved from Greece to New York as an infant, grew up in a Harlem apartment, and worked as a grocery store clerk while studying at NYU before dropping out to buy a stake in the store where he worked. He opened his own supermarket in 1969 and by age 25 had 10 Red Apple stores. Today he owns the Gristedes supermarket chain, a Pennsylvania oil refinery, and real estate across New York. At No. 56 is Dean Metropoulos, valued at $4.3 billion, built through private equity deals. He is best known for rescuing the Twinkies and Hostess brands after buying Hostess Brands with Apollo Global Management in 2013 and taking it public, before J.M. Smucker acquired it for $5.6 billion a decade later. Through Metropoulos and Co., he has also sold brands including Chef Boyardee, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Bumble Bee Tuna. This year he acquired a 5% stake in the New England Patriots. George Marcus rounds out the Greek trio at No. 118 with a net worth of $1.6 billion tied to real estate. He founded Marcus and Millichap in 1971 and still holds a 35% stake in the publicly traded commercial real estate firm. He also holds a 3% stake in Essex Property Trust, which manages more than 60,000 apartments along the West Coast. India leads all countries with a record 19 immigrant billionaires on the list, followed by Israel and Taiwan with 11 each. Three of the ten richest people in the world are US immigrants, with Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, and Jensen Huang together holding more than 60% of all immigrant billionaire wealth. #Greeks #GreekAmericans #Forbes
