George Stephanopoulos received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday in Los Angeles, honored alongside his "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts in a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the ABC morning show.
Stephanopoulos, 65, was joined at the event by his wife Ali Wentworth, 61, and daughters Elliott, 24, and Harper, 21. Actor Michael J. Fox, fellow GMA anchor Michael Strahan, and actress Niecy Nash-Betts were among those who spoke at the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.
The Greek-American broadcaster called it one of the moments he never saw coming. "This is one of those never could've imagined moments," he said. "The chance to cover the biggest, most consequential stories... to be able to say good morning to the entire country every morning."
Stephanopoulos left the Clinton White House in the mid-1990s after serving as communications director and senior adviser during the first term, joining ABC News in 1996. He became a GMA co-anchor in 2009 and has held the role for 17 years.
Fox, speaking at the ceremony, joked that vacationing with Stephanopoulos in Greece made him completely invisible. Strahan credited him as a remarkable journalist who carried White House-level intelligence and curiosity into decades of morning television.
The two new stars, the 2,862nd and 2,863rd on the Walk of Fame since its 1961 completion, were placed side by side near the El Capitan Theatre. Roberts' star sits next to Stephanopoulos', and his next to Strahan's, who was honored earlier.
