Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched a fierce attack on Israel's government Sunday, calling it "addicted to war" and labeling its leadership a "group of slaughterers."
Speaking publicly, Erdogan accused the Israeli government of deliberately undermining diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East. He claimed Ankara has been closely watching Israeli moves, which he says are designed to sabotage any regional consensus toward de-escalation.
Erdogan went further, referring specifically to what he called the "Zionist leadership" and arguing that Israel's current government ties its own political survival to keeping conflicts burning in the region. He pointed to Lebanon and Syria as examples, saying Israel "does not let them rest."
"We must not allow the current government of Israel, which is addicted to war, to plunge our region again into the smell of gunpowder and blood," Erdogan said. He framed Turkey's position as one of consistent support for diplomacy, claiming Ankara backs every step that could reduce regional tensions.
The remarks follow a pattern of escalating rhetoric from Erdogan toward Israel since the Gaza conflict intensified. Turkey and Israel have had no normalization of diplomatic ties, and Erdogan has repeatedly used Israel as a target of criticism on the international stage. His comments Sunday mark some of his sharpest language yet against the Israeli government.
