Turkey and France have signed a "Defense Cooperation Roadmap," formalizing a new framework for military and defense industry collaboration between the two NATO allies, according to Turkey's Ministry of Defense.
The signing was the headline outcome of high-level talks between senior French and Turkish officials. France was represented by Deputy Minister for Armed Forces and Veterans Alice Rufo, General Vincent Giraud, the military chief of staff to the French president, and Guillaume Ollagnier, Director General for International Relations and Strategy.
During the meetings, both sides reviewed the current state of bilateral defense and military relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across the defense industry and military sectors. They also agreed to maintain regular contact to produce concrete results.
According to the Turkish Defense Ministry's statement, the roadmap aims to upgrade defense cooperation between the two countries and create an institutional framework for their strategic dialogue. The talks took place within the context of ongoing military cooperation activities between Ankara and Paris.
The development marks a notable step in France-Turkey relations, which have seen significant tension in recent years over Libya, the Eastern Mediterranean, and disagreements inside NATO. Both sides described the agreement as a commitment to strengthening the strategic dialogue between Ankara and Paris.
