Milo Yiannopoulos, the far-right British commentator of Greek descent, has been deported from the United States and returned to the United Kingdom, the Department of Homeland Security announced Saturday. He was arrested Thursday at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans and deported the following day by ICE. Yiannopoulos had entered the US legally on May 14, 2019, but overstayed his permitted time in the country. A final deportation order was issued on July 22 after he failed to appear at an immigration hearing. The arrest drew a swift reaction from within far-right circles. Far-right influencer Laura Loomer posted on X that she was the first person to report that Yiannopoulos was living illegally in the US, and alleged that he had incited violence against President Trump. Critics have long labeled him a racist and misogynist. He describes himself as a defender of free speech and a vocal opponent of political correctness in all its forms. Yiannopoulos has close ties to rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, whose European concerts were banned this year over his praise of Adolf Hitler and a series of antisemitic statements West has attributed to his bipolar disorder.
