Natalia Margioli has made history as the first woman and the first Greek to serve as president of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the London-based professional body for the global commercial shipping industry, in its 115-year existence.
The handover was confirmed at the institute's annual Controlling Council meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, where outgoing president Punit Oza passed the role to her. Margioli will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, having held the position of vice president since 2024.
Margioli is the founder and managing director of the Hellenic Management Centre, a role she has held since 1999. She also founded the ICS Greek branch, building one of the organization's most active national networks. She holds a BA in Business Administration and an MBA.
Jeffrey Blum was elected vice president at the same Cape Town meeting, and will serve a two-year term supporting her leadership.
Speaking on the appointment, Margioli said becoming the first woman and the first Greek president in the institute's 115-year history is a milestone she is very proud of. Her stated priorities include building on the institute's excellence in maritime education, strengthening the value of membership, and bringing its international branches closer together.
Founded in 1911 and granted a royal charter in 1920, the ICS sets the professional standard for shipbroking and related maritime disciplines worldwide.
