Giota Pimenidou speaks with geopolitical strategist Dr Jake Sotiriadis about the return of ideology as a force in international affairs ... and why economics, military strength and conventional ideas of national interest no longer tell the whole story.

Sotiriadis spent 21 years as a U.S. Air Force intelligence officer, founded the Air Force’s Strategic Foresight capability and established the Center for Futures Intelligence at National Intelligence University. He is now a senior associate at CSIS and an adviser and instructor at the U.S. State Department’s National Foreign Affairs Training Center.

From US-China competition and Russia to strategic foresight and the erosion of the post-Cold War consensus, the conversation asks a more fundamental question: what happens when rival powers are no longer competing only over interests, but over competing visions of how the world should work?
