Margarita Papandreou was buried in Athens on Sunday at the First Cemetery, two days after dying at the age of 103. Hundreds gathered for the state funeral, including family members, longtime PASOK officials, and politicians from across the political spectrum. Eulogies were delivered by her three sons, George, Nikos, and Andreas (Andrikos), as well as her grandchildren Margarita Papandreou and Kostis Katsanevas, PASOK representative Anna Diamantopoulou, and her close friend Foteini Sianou. Former Prime Minister George Papandreou opened the ceremony by thanking all those who attended and noting that his mother "was not born Greek, she became Greek," adding that she loved Greece deeply and built lasting bonds with Greek women through their shared struggles for equality, dignity, and peace. His brother Andrikos delivered one of the most emotional eulogies of the morning, addressing his mother directly. He recalled how she taught her children to love life, recognize their mistakes, and stand by others, closing with the words "We don't yet know how you managed to give so much to so many people and still make us feel we had everything. Thank you, Mum." Nikos Papandreou described her as a woman of "undying youth" who remained a source of wisdom and calm for the family throughout her life. He recalled the night of the junta's coup, when he was ten years old and watched his mother run barefoot across broken glass chasing the military truck carrying Andreas Papandreou. He also remembered finding her dancing alone to country music at their home in Kastri years after Andreas's death, a moment he described as her private way of fighting grief and keeping her love for him alive. Wreaths were sent by PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, SYRIZA, and the Union of Greek Women, which dedicated its wreath to "our dear president." Among those who attended in person were Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, Dora Bakoyannis, and Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios.
