An Israeli-linked cruise ship has quietly ended its 2026 season visits to the Greek island of Syros after canceling its last two scheduled port calls. The Crown Iris, operating under Israeli interests, canceled its August 16 arrival first, then officially called off its final planned stop on Friday, August 21, according to syrostoday.
The cancellations bring the ship's entire Syros season to a close. Port authorities in Ermoupoli had restricted public gatherings near the dock ahead of the vessel's previous visits, but a number of protesters still showed up in defiance of those restrictions.
Local residents and community groups had organized demonstrations at the port against the Israeli government each time the Crown Iris docked. The protests reflected broader tensions around Israeli-linked commercial activity in Greece that have surfaced in several communities this summer.
With the final two August arrivals now off the schedule, Ermoupoli's port is returning to normal operations. The security restrictions that had disrupted daily life for local residents and businesses in the dock area are no longer in effect.
The Crown Iris situation drew attention partly because port authorities took the unusual step of banning public gatherings at the specific location where protesters had been calling people to assemble. Despite that ban, demonstrators gathered anyway on multiple occasions.
No official statement was issued explaining the reason for the cancellations.
