Greece made its mark at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on Sunday, picking up two medals in swimming on the second day of competition. Eirini Zervou opened the scoring with a silver in the women's 200m backstroke, touching the wall in 2:15.52. Argentina's Cecilia Dieleke took gold in 2:10.05, with Israel's Ofir Simcha claiming bronze in 2:17.44. Nikolas Papatheodorou then added a bronze in the men's 200m backstroke, finishing in 2:03.23. The race was won by a swimmer from New Zealand in 1:59.15, with Iran's swimmer taking silver in 2:02.74. Hellenic Olympic Committee president Isidoros Kouvelos was in the stands for both finals and congratulated Zervou and Papatheodorou in person afterward. Two medals in a single day from two teenage swimmers is exactly the kind of start Greece was hoping for at these Games. #Greece #Dakar2026 #YouthOlympics
