Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a direct warning to Ankara on Tuesday, declaring that Turkey's objections to Greek policy decisions will have zero effect on Athens. Speaking at the opening of a Cabinet meeting, Mitsotakis made clear that Greece is prepared to defend its sovereign territory whenever necessary. "Reactions from the east that follow our actions do not affect our planning," Mitsotakis said, adding that Greek sovereign zones are defined by international law, not by Ankara's complaints. "Areas of Greek sovereignty arise from international law, and we are ready to defend them at any moment," he stated. The remarks came after Turkey objected to Greece's new Special Spatial Frameworks for Renewable Energy and Tourism, which Ankara had criticized as encroaching on disputed areas. Mitsotakis made clear that the only item Greece accepts as a subject for Greek-Turkish talks is the delimitation of the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. No expansion of the agenda beyond those terms is on the table. Mitsotakis also used the Cabinet session to mark the formal close of the EU Recovery Fund program on August 31, which delivered roughly 36 billion euros in loans and grants to Greece, the largest package as a share of GDP among EU member states. He said Greece now borrows at lower rates than France and Italy, and claimed that for the first time a Greek government is reducing national debt fast enough that Greece will soon no longer be the most indebted country in Europe. Looking ahead, Mitsotakis said the government's next major policy presentation will come at the Thessaloniki International Fair, where a roadmap toward 2030, the 200th anniversary of the modern Greek state, will begin to take shape.
