A student born in Greece to Nigerian parents carried the flag in Thessaloniki's Oxi Day student parade on Tuesday, in one of the more talked-about moments from this year's celebrations across the country. Victory Moumochou, a third-year lyceum student at the Onassis school in Xirokrini, Thessaloniki, served as the flag escort, or parastatis, for the first time this year. He made no secret of how much the moment meant to him. He said he felt joy and gratitude to God for the honour of representing his school and the country, adding that he was born in Greece and his parents are from Nigeria. The role of flag escort is one of the most visible positions in Greece's student parades, traditionally going to a top-performing student chosen by the school. Moumochou described the experience as deeply personal, saying he was proud to represent not just his school but the country where he was born and grew up. Oxi Day, observed on October 28, marks Greece's rejection of Mussolini's ultimatum in 1940, 86 years ago today. Student parades are held across the country every year as part of the commemorations. #OxiDay #Thessaloniki #Greece
