Giannis Antetokounmpo is officially a Miami Heat player. The trade, which had been agreed in principle on June 22, was formally completed on July 6, ending a 13-year chapter with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Miami acquired Giannis alongside Bobby Portis Jr., two players who were central to Milwaukee's 2021 NBA championship and the 2024 NBA Cup title. The Heat gave up a substantial package to make it happen.
Giannis leaves Milwaukee as the greatest player in Bucks history, having broken nearly every major franchise record. During his time there, he won two regular-season MVP awards, one NBA Cup MVP, one All-Star Game MVP, and one Defensive Player of the Year award.
In return, the Bucks received Kasparas Jakucionis, Kel'el Ware, the 13th overall pick in the 2026 draft Nate Ament, Tyler Herro, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Milwaukee also secured multiple future first-round picks, including unprotected selections in 2031 and 2033, a first-round pick swap right in 2030, and a 2033 second-round pick.
The Bucks' farewell statement noted that Giannis arrived in Milwaukee as a kid from Sepolia with an impossible dream, and left as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
