Apostolos Christou is a four-time European champion. The Greek swimmer claimed gold in the 100m backstroke on the final day of the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, finishing with a time of 52.27 seconds. It was an incredibly tight finish at the top. Italy's Thomas Ceccon came in just behind at 52.28, missing gold by a single hundredth of a second. Russia's Pavel Samusenko took bronze with a time of 52.57. Christou has now won the European title in this event four times, cementing his status as the dominant force in backstroke swimming on the continent.
