Greek MEP Afroditi Latinopoulou, president of the "Voice of Reason" party, delivered a fierce speech against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the European Parliament's plenary session on September 16, during the annual State of the European Union debate. Addressing von der Leyen directly, Latinopoulou accused her of being the greatest racist against Europeans, pointing to EU policies on immigration, taxation, bureaucracy, the green transition, and social policy. She argued that the Commission has flooded Europe with migrants, burdened European citizens with taxes and red tape, and devastated farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen. On immigration specifically, Latinopoulou accused the EU of funding millions of migrants, linking that policy to rising crime rates and warning it could eventually lead to migrants gaining voting rights. She also attacked the green transition agenda, calling it "green madness," and accused the Commission of imposing a woke agenda and what she described as the Islamization of Europe. She pointed to factory closures, job losses, and damage to what she called the traditional family unit as direct consequences of Brussels policy. With sharp sarcasm, she noted that in exchange for all this, Europeans received paper straws, sealed bottle caps, and Gay Pride events. Closing her remarks, she questioned von der Leyen's democratic legitimacy, arguing she was never directly elected by European citizens and relies politically on the Socialists and Manfred Weber. Her final words to the Commission president were blunt: "Mrs. Von der Leyen, you have destroyed us." #EuropeanParliament #VonDerLeyen #Greece
