Miltis Tentoglou put on a stunning performance at the Greek Athletics Championships in Volos, jumping 8.66 meters to equal the national long jump record set by Loútis Tsátoumas back in 2007. That mark has stood for 19 years, and Tentoglou matched it at the Papaflessia meeting in Kalamata earlier this season before confirming it again in Volos. The 8.66 is the best long jump distance recorded anywhere in the world so far in 2026. Tentoglou also obliterated his own Greek Championship personal best in the process, surpassing the 8.48 he had jumped at the nationals back in 2021 by a significant margin. What makes the performance even more remarkable is how consistent he was across all his attempts. He closed the competition with a jump of 8.64 meters, meaning he had multiple jumps over 8.60 and four jumps over 8.50. He finished knowing he had the ability to surpass Tsátoumas' record outright but came away with the clear sense that it is only a matter of time. In the rest of the competition, Nikos Stamatonikolas of AO Megarwn finished second with 7.84 meters, returning to strong form.
